Eco building Cockermouth Cumbria

Borehole drilling machine

Multiple energy saving renewables installed in green eco building in Cockermouth, Cumbria

An award winning sustainable building in Cockermouth, Cumbria has a host of green and renewable technologies installed.  The project features a heat pump, solar photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine for generating electricity.

As much as possible of the building was constructed from recycled materials including bricks, aggregates and paving flags. Timber came from sustainable forests. Insulation included sheep’s wool and shredded recycled newspapers. Rain water harvesting and a sedum roof add to the project’s green energy installations.

The heat pump provides heat for underfloor heating, utilising a network of boreholes drilled in the grounds of the eco centre.

West Cumbria is home to numerous Geowarmth renewable energy heating systems with biomass, heat pump and solar installations in both commercial and domestic buildings in Cockermouth, Whitehaven, Workington, Silloth and Cleator Moor demonstrating their low carbon credentials.
